15 Day-Vikshit Krishi Sangkalp Abhiyan (VKSA) organized by KVK, Karbi Anglong, Assam Agricultural University

 

          The nationwide pre-Kharif campaign entitled "Vikshit Krishi Sangkalp Abhiyan (VKSA)" was successfully conducted in different villages of Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India. The campaign was launched on 29th May, 2025 at Farmers Growth Centre, Diphu, with a flag-off ceremony of two Krishi Raths, in the presence of Mr. Amarsing Tisso, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, 6 Diphu ST, Parliamentary Constituency; Mr. Dorsing Ronghang, MLA, 18 LAC, Howraghat; Mr. Dilip Terang, Secretary (Agriculture), KAAC, Diphu, officials from line departments and financial institutions, scientists from AAU-ZRS, Diphu, KVK, Karbi Anglong and farmers from different villages of the district. A total of 330 villages have been covered from 6 different developmental blocks viz. Lumbajong, Bokajan, Langsomepi, Samelangso, Howraghat and Nilip benefited about 20000 farmers across the district.

The campaign was an initiative by the Department of Agricultural Research & Education (DARE)/Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA & FW), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, across country started from 29th May, 2025 and ended on 12th June, 2025. Under the leadership of Dr. Monuj Kumar Doley, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Karbi Anglong, it was organised in various villages of the district to create awareness among farmers about region-specific sustainable technologies related to major Kharif crops of the district, promote the use of soil health cards for judicious use of fertilizers including micronutrients, disseminate the information about various government schemes and policies beneficial for farmers, and gather the feedback from farmers to align future research and innovations matching to the ground-level needs.

The campaign was executed through two expert teams comprising four different locations per day, each team covering two locations. Team 1, led by Mr. Shourov Dutta, SMS (Horticulture) consisting of Ms. Prakshipta Boruah, SMS (Agronomy) and Dr. Neethi Baruah, Scientist, AAU-ZRS, Diphu and Team 2, led by Dr. Lohit Kataki, SMS (Plant Protection) consisting of Mrs. Minika Rongpharpi, PA (Agriculture), Ms. Krishna Bharadwaj & Dr. Manjurima Gogoi, Scientist, AAU-ZRS, Diphu and officials from the Department of Agriculture, Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Department of Fisheries, District Industries and  Commerce Centre, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission and banking institutions of Karbi Anglong district actively participated in the campaign. Activities undertaken in the program were Seed exchange among the farmers, Method demonstrations, Farmer Scientist Interaction, Group discussion etc. Various topics on which awareness has been done among the farmers were Soil Health Cards, Promotion of Natural Farming, Various ongoing government schemes viz. PM KISAN, PMFBY, PMMSY, CMAAA, PMEGP, PMKSY etc., Urban Horticulture for the upliftment of rural communities and many others.

In addition, on 6th and 7th June, 2025, Dr. Mrinal Saikia, ADR, Directorate of Research, Dr. Rupam Borgohain, Principal Scientist, Directorate of Research and Dr. Subal Maibangsa, Professor, Department of Crop Physiology visited the locations as a monitoring team from the AAU, Jorhat. Moreover, on 6th June, 2025, an Awareness programme on Natural Farming was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Diphu in collaboration with KVK, Karbi Anglong. Mr. Gouranga Chetia, ADO (Rongmongve) was present in the programme. 

The campaign was completed having a positive impact on the farming community of Karbi Anglong district. VKSA in Karbi Anglong appears to have been highly successful, combining extensive outreach, inclusive content, and participative strategy. The multi-agency collaboration ensured strong technical and institutional support, while the feedback component underscored a dynamic, farmer-focused model. This initiative significantly advanced agricultural awareness, scheme uptake, and opened channels for science-backed solutions targeted to local agro-ecologies.
